Vascular Lesions & Redness

IPL reduces unsightly redness from Capillaries, Acne, Rosacea, Couperose, High colour, Port wine stains and scarring. It will also help to stimulate the dermis which in turn will cause the collagen and elastin fibres to strengthen - improving skin texture, firmness, pore size and fine lines.

The Photo Rejuvenation head on the IPL uses light that is selectively absorbed by the unwanted veins and capillaries that are too close to the skin surface. The light is converted to heat which effectively seals the unwanted vessels, these are then broken down by the body and flushed out of your system.

What causes Vascular Lesion & Redness?

This can be hereditary, or due to alcohol dilated blood vessels, excessive heat from baths, showers, even hot spicy foods or it can be related to trauma from sunburn or injury.

How many treatments will I need?

It will depend on a number of factors including your skin type, the size of the vessels, how long they have been there and how close to the skins surface they are. You will need around 5 treatments for most vascular problems but if there is pigmentation in the area, that will need to be treated first as it may act like "an umbrella" over the vessels we are wanting to remove.

Will the treatment hurt?

A slight sting, similar to been flicked with a rubber band, but the end results are well worth it. The operator will taylor the treatment and duration to your comfort levels. A soothing lotion is applied and ice packs are available if necessary.

What are the potential side effects?

Side effects are heat related and are only ever temporary. Most side effects usually subside within 24-48 hours. Slight swelling or puffiness in the area been treated can occur and this is usually more obvious in the mornings. Superficial crusting or browning patches on the skin may occur if there is any sun damage in the area being treated. This is often a good sign which will heal quickly and results in an improved skin texture and tone.
On rare occasions pigment changes and blistering may occur but by following our simple directions these heal very quickly and you will still get a good result from the treatment. However it is not a good idea to have a treatment too close to a big occasion e.g a wedding. Discuss any timing issues with your operator.

What should I do after the treatment?

Keep area clean, apply Aloe Vera and cooling spray (such as Avene Water). Keep SPF 30+ on area as skin will be light sensitive. If skin crusts, keep moist with Aloe Vera. Any redness diminishes within 24 hours, but can last up to 72 hours. Treat like you would sunburn, so no hot showers, spa pools, saunas or excessive exercise for the first 24 - 48 hours. Cleanse & moisturise gently. Avoid tanning. If swelling occurs use a cool face cloth compress. DON'T PICK CRUSTING!
