Hair Removal

The permanent hair reduction head on the IPL uses light that is selectively absorbed by dark pigment known as melanin. The light is then converted to heat which conducts down the hair shaft to the follicle where it destroys the follicles ability to produce new hair growth.

Will IPL work on all hair?

Results depend on Hair Colour (darker the better) skin colour (paler the better) Coarseness of hair (facial hair is finer than bikini line hair). Different areas respond quicker than others, people over 21 will respond better to treatment. If you have a Hormonal imbalance or have a strong ethnic background treatments will take longer. If you are committed to the treatment programme prescribed by your technician you will get a better result. (Usually treatments are 3-6 weeks apart).

How many treatments will I need?

Most of our clients need 4-8 treatments but it also depends on the hair & skin colour etc. Facial hair can be slower to respond as its usually finer and lighter but results are still good.

How do I prepare for my treatment?

Keep SPF 30+ sunscreen on the area (if applicable) for at least 2 weeks before treatment and avoid tanning from any source. (Fake tan or sun beds included)
Don't wax, pluck or have electrolysis in area for two weeks prior to treatment. You can clip, shave or depilatory cream hair in area before and between treatments.
Shave body hair in area to be treated 24 to 48 hours prior to treatment.

Will the treatment hurt?

Area is cooled prior to treatment to minimise pain, but it may still feel like a rubber band flicking your skin. In some cases you will not feel a thing. Ice packs are available if necessary for post treatment soothing.

What are the potential side effects?

Side effects are usually heat related & only ever temporary. Redness & follicle swelling are normal and will disappear in 1 to 2 hours, although in rare cases crusting, pigmentation & blistering can occur, but these heal very quickly.

What should I do after the treatment?

Treat like you would sun burn, as skin will be a bit warm & pink. No hot showers or spas until redness subsides & no excessive sweating exercise. Treat skin gently for first 24 hrs and until redness subsides. After 5 days start gently exfoliation of skin & you will see hair start to fall out. It can take up to 14 days for hair to shed. You can cleanse & moisturise the area as normal.

Why should I have IPL hair reduction & not continue waxing?

With permanent hair reduction you don't have to grow your hair long enough to wax any more. Ingrown hairs are eliminated, and you will be free of a painful expensive regular treatment.

Can any area be treated?

Most areas on the body can be treated apart from inner ear, nostrils and lower part of eyebrows.
