Pigmentation & Anti-ageing Skin Rejuvenation

The Photo rejuvenation head on the IPL uses light that is selectively absorbed by the darker pigment in the surface of the skin. The heat generated will cause the pigment to come to the surface which may then crust and naturally comes off leaving a lighter clearer complexion.

Photofacial IPL can Lighten/reduce darker pigmentation (freckles, sunspots, some birthmarks, scars etc). It also Stimulates collagen and elastin production, which improves skin texture, firmness, pore size & fine lines.

Can all Pigmentation be treated?

There are 2 types of pigmentation Dermal & Epidermal, Dermal is generally hormonal e.g. due to pregnancy or contraceptive pill. Epidermal is usually sun related, e.g. freckles and age spots. We can treat epidermal pigmentation and achieve very good results, however dermal pigmentation is more difficult to get a long term resolution.

What can I expect?

  • Some improvement may be visible from first treatment
  • Optimal results will be achieved when skin no longer crusts
  • Crusting decreases with each treatment
  • Re-treatment can be performed as soon as crusting etc. fully goes (can be 1-4 weeks)
  • Client must be prepared to use SPF 30+ sunscreen before beginning of treatments and during course of treatments. A daily habit of using sunscreen will help protect your skin from further pigmentation and ageing.

Can I still wear make-up?

Yes, but use light make-up and be gentle with skin whilst cleansing.

What are the potential side effects?

Side effects are heat related and are only ever temporary. Most side effects usually subside within 24-48 hours. Slight swelling or puffiness in the area been treated can occur and this is usually more obvious in the mornings. Superficial crusting or browning patches on the skin may occur if there is any sun damage in the area being treated. This is often a good sign which will heal quickly and results in an improved skin texture and tone.
On rare occasions pigment changes and blistering may occur but by following our simple directions these heal very quickly and you will still get a good result from the treatment. However it is not a good idea to have a treatment too close to a big occasion e.g a wedding. Discuss any timing issues with your operator.
